ENGR. TOYIN OJO CHARGES COUNCILLORS TO LEGISLATE ON PEOPLES’ ORIENTED MATTERS

Councillors in Ado Local Government have been charged to legislate on matters that could be of great benefit to the people of the Local Government thereby making people remember them for good even after leaving office .

The words of admonition was delivered on Wednesday by the Chairman , Ado -Central Local Council Development Area ,Ado -Ekiti, Engr.Toyin Ojo while playing host to the Ado Local Government Councillors who were on a familiarization visit to the Council.

The council chairman appreciated Councillors for the support and cooperation he has been receiving from them since he assumed office saying that his administration has strong belief in their capacities and capabilities to make bye laws that would improve the living standard of the people of the local government as well as Ado Ekiti .

Engr. OJO, who lamented the inability of the last House to pass into laws some executive bills he sent to it however, appealed to the current House to give such bills deserved attention .

He reiterated his administration’s commitment and readiness to continue to pursue people’s oriented policies and programmes while advising the Councillors to be united in purpose and intention for the overall development of their various wards .

The Council boss urged the lawmakers to continue to think about what they can be remembered for after leaving the office.

He urged them to factor into yearly appropriation bills votes that could take care of wards’ projects in their various wards just like being rightly done in the National Assembly.He promised to liaise with other three chairmen to address the concerns raised in their speech.

Earlier , the Leader of the House who spoke on behalf of other Councilors during the visit,Hon.Babatunde Arogundade eulogized the chairman for embarking on projects that have direct impacts on the lives of his people in the council area.

Hon. Babatunde told the chairman that they embarked on the visit to familiarise themselves with the chairman.
He pledged the House’s unalloyed support at all time to the chairman .

The Leader promised that the House would revisit all the bills that could not scale through during the last House .
He listed out some of the challenges being faced by the House which included a lack of computer set, lack of an official vehicle for the Leader of the House as well as non – availability of the Standing Order among others
appealing to the chairman to give priority attention to the them .

Speaking at the meeting ,the Head of Local Council Administration (HLA) of the council , Com. Olaitan Alatise enjoined the Councillors to borrow an idea from the National Assembly members’ practice where votes are incorporated into the budget for constituents projects .
He said the move would enable the councillors to implement legacy projects in their various wards .

The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman to the Council, Hon. Babatunde Onipede ,Secretary to the Council, Princess Adenike Adeleye, HLA , Com. Olaitan Alatise , Directors among others .
