TINUBU TO ATTEND INAUGURATION OF MAHAMAT DEBY AS CHAD PRESIDENT

President Bola Tinubu will attend the inauguration of Mahamat Déby as the president of Chad.

A statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, on Wednesday, said Tinubu will depart Abuja for N’Djamena, the capital city of Chad, on Thursday and will return after the ceremony.

Déby, who was the transitional president of Chad, was declared the winner of the May 6 presidential election last week by the constitutional council.

The election marked the end of the political transition in the country—from military rule to democracy.

The declaration of Déby as the winner came after the council dismissed challenges by two candidates — Succès Masra, prime minister, and Albert Padacké, former prime minister.

Jean-Bernard Padare, constitutional council president, said Déby won the poll with 61 percent of the vote — cementing a victory that extends his family’s decades-long rule.

Ngelale said Tinubu will be accompanied on the trip by other senior government officials.
