The Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Chief Mrs Biodun Olujimi has disclosed that the opposition party does not have a structure in the state.
She stated that she and other loyal party members remained in the party because they were decent people who would not jump the ship because the PDP had been good to them building their political careers.
The two term senator who recently initiated a peace move to reconcile the crisis ridden party in the state bared her mind while responding to questions as a guest of a radio program this morning monitored by our correspondent in Ado Ekiti.
Blaming the leadership of the party under former Governor Ayo Fayose for the intractable crisis in the party, Olujimi said; “There’s no party structure in PDP Ekiti State today because the party in its wisdom gave us a caretaker committee. Before then, between myself, Governor Fayose and Otunba Akerele we had agreed and they have convinced me that I should bring somebody from Repositioning group who they could present to the party as an interim chairman and I said all of them (candidates) were already in OPA because Engr Agboola, who we eventually settled for was already working for Governor Fayose through Otunba Akerele. But for me I said what I need is peace and I said if there would be peace let us pick him
“But before the party could approve of him, Governor Fayose asked the acting chairman to go to court and the acting chairman is now reinstated by court as the acting chairman again and so Engr Agboola could not take the position. The moment the acting chairman took the seat, he (Fayose) went back to court to say court should reaffirm Engr Agboola. After the caretaker has been installed you now brought a court order saying Engr Agboola is now the state chairman. What confusion? A good leader does not do that. A good leader does not create veritable confusion in any team that he is supposed to lead. You cannot bring such a confusion into a party and say you are a leader no matter what you are looking for. I can say right now the confusion stays because Engr Agboola knows that the party never agreed that he was the chairman. They have not given us the go ahead because the caretaker is the only operator the party put in place and we are waiting because of the appeal and that was why we thought while we are waiting, let us start reaching out to people in a bid to building the party”
Reacting to the frosty relationship between her and the former Governor, Olujimi admitted that Governor Fayose was her benefactor .
“His my benefactor like what many people say but being a benefactor doesn’t mean you can’t speak truth to power”
She expressed worries that the former Governor has twice failed to win elections in the state.
‘Somebody should ask him the question if a former Governor who sees himself as the owner of the voting public in Ekiti has not been able to deliver on those two occasions and this is where we are and the same person is still fighting and he’s thinking he must take hold the jugular of the party after campaiging against the party. There are surely some questions to be asked”
She however expressed optimism that the party would bounce back again at the end of the crisis.
Her words; ‘In all of this, we will all come out victorious because the PDP will survive. We are going to pull ourselves together and we are going to fight against anybody who wants to divide us further”
