OKADA MAX OPERATORS ATTACKED BY UNION MEMBERS AS EWI, CP MOVE TO END CRISIS

By Lekan Adejuwon

Fresh crisis erupted yesterday in Ado Ekiti, the state capital among the protesting commercial motorcyclists riders as some erring members of the union attacked riders of the popular yellow Okada max riders at various locations in the city.

The Bank Road head office of the privately owned Okada max company was besieged by aggrieved Okada riders who purchased their bikes from the company complaining that union members attacked and forcefully seized their bikes at Old Garage,Ijigbo and other locations on the allegation that they were behind the protest that started on Thursday.
Some of them who denied the allegation told our correspondent said it was wrong to put the blame on yellow max operators because their number was far too small compared to the mass revolt of all Okada riders who were pushed to the wall by the exploitative and inhuman conduct of the union.

The company’s GM, Funto, had hectic time to bring the rowdy situation under control as a detachment of Police and RRS men were drafted to the scene to prevent the crisis from escalating.
In a related development, the RRS made some arrest of unruly okada riders who allegedly stoned their officers on patrol and impounded 12 bikes.
Meanwhile, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti Oba Rufus Adejugbe has held a peace meeting with the warring union members with the leadership and they resolved to give peace a chance.
Similarly, the Commissioner of Police Mr Dare Ogundare has waded into the matter.
