Men of Western Nigerian Security Network also known as Amotekun has arrested a man with fake N100, O00 newly designed naira notes all in crisp N1000 notes.
The suspected middle aged man simply identified as Sunny was paraded this morning before pressmen at the operational office of Amotekun along Old Iyin Road, Ado Ekiti.
The Commander of the security network, Brigadier-General Joe Komolafe disclosed to journalists that his men apprehended the suspect at Omuo Ekiti on Sunday.
Upon interrogation, the suspected currency counterfeiter confessed to the crime which he had earlier denied.
According to him, “The man who gave me the money is in Lagos where I lived as a petty trader selling kolanuts and bitter kola. However when I was caught with the fake money on Sunday at Omuo, I called the man before the Amotekun people and the man promised to transfer some money to me but later his phone was not reachable.
Sunny had earler claimed that he was not aware that the money found with him were fake notes saying that he was caught while using it to buy some items in Omuo.
In a related development, the suspect confessed that he collects a commission of N30,000 on every 100,000 successful transaction from his boss but claimed that this is the first time he was involved in the illegal deal.
Brigadier-General Joe Komolafe in a reaction said that he had officially reported the case to the police for further investigation noting that investigations are ongoing to unmasked the ring leaders behind the criminal cartel.
He expressed worries at the wicked activities of some elements in the society to thwart the efforts of the CBN in it’s policy of naira redesigning.
