JUST IN..MORE TROUBLES FOR SUSPENDED IKERE CMD AS WOMEN GROUPS, NGO, OTHERS CALL FOR HIS ARREST, PROSECUTION

The last may not have been heard of the trending story of Chief Medical Director of Ikere Specialist Hospital, Dr. Olubiyi Olaolu Abidemi who was suspended by the Ekiti State government for acts unbecoming of a trained medical practitioner.

The CMD was in the news last week for the wrong reason of engaging in domestic violence with his wife, Dr. (Mrs) Olubiyi Adenike who was beaten to the pulp and hospitalized at the Accident and Emergency ward of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital with a broken neck.

The woman, an Associate Professor is a lecturer at the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Statistics Department.

Family sources disclosed that the Osun State-born CMD who has a private hospital in Ekiti had an affair with a female staff leading to pregnancy which did not go down well with his legal wife as a result of which a disagreement ensued leading to domestic violence at their Ifaki Ekiti residence.

The matter was reported to the State Government through the office of SSA to the Governor on Community Communications and subsequently taken over by the Ministry of Women Affairs which ensured that the CMD was arrested at the Ifaki Police Station.

The Police after entering the case, it was learnt, referred the matter to Ado Ekiti Police headquarters where Dr. Olubiyi was reportedly detained briefly but later released.

The development according to our findings, angered some interested parties blaming the police for allowing the man to walk the street as a free man after a perceived injustice had been done to his wife.

Checks from the Ministry of Women Affairs revealed that the State government frowned at the alleged shoddy job done by the police on the serious issue.

Said an authoritative source from the Ministry of Women Affairs; “This is a classic case of Gender Based Violence which the State Government frowns at. The State Ministry of Women Affairs is an interested party just as the Office of the First Lady, some NGOs and women advocacy groups have expressed concerns that the matter should not be swept under the carpet”

“It is true that the man has been suspended and his license withdrawn, but he shouldn’t have been left off the hook without being asked to answer some questions that is why we are saying that the man should be rearrested and brought to justice”

“As we speak, the Association of female lawyers FIDA has threatened to stage a protest if the man is not re-arrested and prosecuted” the source said
Fresh reports reaching our news desk indicate that National Association of Women Academics, NAWACS and ASUU, EKSU chapter have taken the matter up too.

In a related development, the Police Public Relation Officer, Ekiti Police Command DSP Sunday Abutu in a reaction, however dispelled the insinuation saying investigations are ongoing on the matter.

The State Ministry of Health and Human Services had in a statement on Thursday announced the suspension of Olubiyi by the State Hospitals Management Board following what it described as “the seriousness of a case of gross misconduct reported against him which established the fact that he violated Ekiti Public Service Rules 030301(ii) and 030402(x)

The statement said the Suspended CMD has been prohibited from carrying out his official duties pending further investigation in line with the provisions of the State Public Service Rules

It further directed him to hand over his duties as CMD of the State State Specialist Hospital, Ikere to Dr Akinsipe Catherine Iyabo with immediate effect .

While stressing the commitment of Government to rewarding excellent performance, dilligence and dedication to duties ,it however said Government would not look away when Government officials do not abide by the Code of Conduct for Public Officers
