Members of Ekiti State Sports Writers Association SWAN yesterday, officially presented one of their own who has elevated the name of the State in the hall of national recognition in the field of sports reporting.
He is no other than Deji Ogunsakin of the Nigerian Television Authority NTA, Ado Ekiti who emerged as SWAN National Vice President South West Nigeria at a keenly contested election in Rivers State last month.
Ogunsakin through this feat, became the first ever occupant of the coveted seat from Ekiti State.
At an elaborate reception for the new national officer held at the popular Fajuyi Park Ado Ekiti, members of the association under the chairmanship of ace Sports reporter, Quazzim Oladapo expressed joy that the emergence of Ogunsakin as a national officer at a time when the Sports Council was about to be created in the state was a right step in the right direction.
They jointly called for a robust communication and cooperation from the Sports loving Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji and members of his newly inaugurated executive council in moving Sports development in Ekiti State to the next level.
In his acceptance speech, Ogunsakin thanked the support and encouragement of members of the association especially the likes of the elderly colleagues such as Messirs Bayo Babalola, Toyin Ayoola and Yaqub Popoola who he described as mentors and pathfinders.
He promised to be a good ambassador of the state in his new assignment as he sought the cooperation of members of the association in order to succeed noting that he will work in conjunction with other national officers to see to the improved welfare of all members of the association
Bisi Ogunleye who moderated the colourful event gave the vote of thanks amidst light refreshment and merriment.
In attendance were the past chairmen of Ekiti SWAN, including Pastor Bayo Babalola, Toyin Ayoola and Yaqub Popoola and other SWAN members from printing and electronic media in the state
