In continuation of its courtesy visits to some state ministries and agencies, the newly inaugurated executive of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State chapter, led by its Chairman, Mr Kayode Babatuyi, yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the Director General, Office of Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho.
Commending Governor Oyebanji for his media-friendly approach, Mr. Babatuyi highlighted the governor’s supportive actions toward the union and its members, such as the transformation of the union’s press house among others.
According to him, the visit aimed to acknowledge the positive strides of the Office of Community Communications under Mrs. Omotosho’s leadership, expressing gratitude for the professionalism displayed in the past year.
In response, Mrs. Omotosho thanked the NUJ leadership for consistently upholding the true tenets of media practice despite the challenges.
She expressed her belief that a society without journalists is one lacking a crucial voice.
Mrs. Omotosho affirmed Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to being a ‘Governor For All’ and reassured the union of continued collaboration and synergy.
Both parties initiated a partnership for capacity training for media practitioners in the state and addressing the rising trend of quackery, recognizing it as a potential threat to the journalism profession in Ekiti State and beyond.
