Following a colourful passing out ceremony of new graduands of a set of Ekiti youths from GIGMOF School of Mentoring on January 27, 2024, Mrs Bimbola Oluyeye, Program Coordinator and lecturer of the life changing online platform, has disclosed the limitless opportunities offered by GIGMOF School of Mentoring to youths in Ekiti.
The erudite scholar in an exclusive interview with our correspondent during the 10th anniversary of a Non- Governmental Organization, Divine Motivation for Positive Impact (DMPII) shed more lights on the positive services of the school to the public.
According to her; “The Program is more about self development. It also helps to prepare the students for the outside world. It’s an all round Program that goes beyond what is taught in the four walls of a classroom. It goes into teaching them about marriage, relationship, purpose discovery and fulfilment, project management and every course you can think about. It is to prepare them for life and to meeting the challenges of life and overcoming the challenges as they come their way”
Speaking on the success recorded in the 2024 edition, Oluyeye said; “I would rate the success over 100% because when we first started, we weren’t this much but as the year goes by as we continue to push out graduates, a lot of people were attracted to the program that at a time we had over 200 applications. We had to streamline because it’s a free school, we don’t charge so that we can be able to accommodate the people we can handle per time”
On the source of funding for such laudable project in the midst of current economic hardship, Oluyeye who admitted that the project is capital intensive but explained the modus operandi adopted to address the issue
“What we do in the course of the program is that we asked them questions as to what they do and they go through interview process. It is from the interview process that we pick those that are eligible for the grants which is quite capital intensive but it’s been powered by PIS, which is under GIGMOF School of Mentoring and so the Board of Directors sit down together and agreed on a particular amount for grants in a particular year and that is always what we disbursed”
In a related development, the head teacher of the school of Mentoring urged the government at all levels to partner with the organization for mutual benefits.
Her words: “We would be glad if government can collaborate with us because in the past 10 years the project has always been privately funded. We have not really enjoyed as much co-operation from government as we would have expected and if government can come in now and assist with more funding, it would help us to be able reach out to more people because the more funding we have, the more we can reach out to more people in the society and with that we’ll be able to affect more lives” she concluded
