The ruling Labour Party (LP) in Abia State suffered a major setback as the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) clinched victory in 15 out of 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the November 2 council polls.
The Young Progressives Party (YPP) won the remaining two LGAs, Ugwunagbo and Osisioma Ngwa.
The Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof. Chima George, announced the results on Saturday night at the ABSIEC headquarters in Umuahia.
“We have fulfilled the duty we were inaugurated on September 5 to carry out. It wasn’t an easy task, but we made extra efforts to raise awareness about the election across the state,” Prof. George stated.
