The Ogun State Government has suspended the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, for six months following the alleged molestation and assault of one Arionla Abraham.
DAILY POST reports that the monarch, in a two-minute viral video, boasted of his influence over law enforcement agencies and threatened the 73-year-old chief, saying, “Even if you die, we shall bury you and nothing will happen.”
In the video, the victim was also seen kneeling on the road while being slapped and verbally abused by the monarch.
Following this, the Ogun State Government, in a bid to ensure the dignity of individuals and protect the sanctity of the traditional institution, placed the monarch on a six-month suspension for his uncivil conduct, adding that it does not befit the status of an Oba.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, and made available to DAILY POST on Monday.
DAILY POST gathered that the decision was reached after the Kabiyesi and the victim were invited by the Commissioner of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for interrogation.
Part of the statement read: “This became imperative as a result of the reckless utterances and public misconduct of the Kabiyesi, as it was evident on social media and being discussed in the larger public space.
“After the investigation conducted on the matter, the Kabiyesi has been suspended and stripped of the paraphernalia of the stool of Olorile-Ifo, pending the determination of his culpability or otherwise in the allegation.”
DAILY POST learned that the decision was reached by the ministry in conjunction with the Egba Traditional Council, in accordance with Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021
