It took the timely intervention of men of Ekiti RRS police Command and a detachment of other security operatives that prevented what could have been a major break down of law and order in the Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti today.
The area which has gained notoriety as the haven for criminals over the years erupted in violence that lasted for over 3 hours grounding economic activities and vehicular movement in the vicinity.
Our correspondent who was at the scene of the incident gathered that men of the Western State security Network, Amotekun most of them unarmed arrived at the market to enforce a relocation order by the Ekiti State Government on the traders most of whom were non indigenes.
But hardly had the men settled down and trying to persuade the traders on the need to move to their permanent location along Agric Olope area when trouble started.
They descended on the members of Amotekun in what suggested a premeditated attack and threw stones at them. Two of their operational vehicles were destroyed while the officers were brutalized sustaining various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.

In the ensuing fracas, one of the hoodlums was shot and died on the spot. The deceased was identified as Ismaila, 25 years old young man. Another victim who sustained injuries has been rushed to the hospital.
It was gathered that Ekiti State Government has ordered the occupants of Atikankan market to move to a bigger place built for them with state of art facilities and a new mosque at Agric Olope, but while some of them had complied with the order, others refused to do so by staying put.
This, it was gathered led to the mayhem as members of Amotekun corps were despatched to the area.
