A former member of the House of Representatives in Ekiti State, Congressman Bimbo Daramola has cautioned the ruling party to thread softly in the build up to the inauguration of the tenth National Assembly in June.
The former lawmaker gave the advice on Monday while responding to questions as a guest in a popular radio program monitored by our correspondent in Ado Ekiti.
According to him the country at present was in dire need of a legislative leader with character, competence and pedigree because the job of presiding over 360 people of different backgrounds, belief patterns and idiosyncrasies can be overwhelming requiring a leader with enough accomodations and tolerance.
He noted that a true parliamentary system should be followed in the selection of principal officers in both legislative arms where the lawmakers should be given the autonomy to choose their leaders on the floor of legislative chamber.
Daramola who who represented his Oye/Ikole1 Federal constituency between 2010 to 2014 and has been in the National Assembly as consultant and resource person till date cautioned the ruling party not to undermine the power of the opposition parties in the new 10th Assembly but to embrace the principle of humility, diplomacy and accommodation.
He added that the party should avoid a situation that produced the speakership of a Tambuwwal during the Jonathan administration against the PDP’s candidate.
