JUST IN: DANGER AVERTED AS EKSG PREVENTS IMMINENT FIRE DISASTER AT ILOKUN COMMUNITY

An imminent fire disaster was prevented this morning which could have snowballed into a major calamity to the people of Ilokun Community, Iworoko Road, Ado Ekiti but was prevented by the prompt response of Ekiti State Waste Management Agency, headed by its Director General, Mr. Sunkanmi Onipede.

The Community woke up on Tuesday morning to a cloudy environment as a result of the heavy smoke oozing out of the government dump site in the area which almost covered the entire community.

However, in a Swift response, the management of the Ekiti State Waste Management Agency, deployed both human and material resources to the area and put out the smoke and also prevented possible fire outbreak which could have complicated the situation.

This development excites residents of the community who came out to commend the promptness of the agency.

According to some of the residents, the smoke if not quickly attended to could have suffocated many of them.

They however appealed to government to relocate the site to another place far away to non residential area.

Inspecting the exercise, the DG, Ekiti State Waste Management Agency, Mr Onipede noted that some unknown persons set fire on the site, saying such was dangerous and could cause disaster.

According to him, an excavator had also been deployed to the site to ensure clearing of the place to prevent epidemic.

Mr Onipede further explained that the step was taken to protect lives and property of people living in the area.
