More facts emerged on the Thursday’s building collapse in Ido Ekiti.
This is, as the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Karounwi Oladapo, promptly conducted an on-site inspection on Friday to ascertain the root cause of the incident.
Disclosing the outcome of the inspection, the Commissioner revealed that despite the structure being registered and having obtained the necessary building permit prior to construction, the constructed building deviated significantly from the approved plans, posing a severe safety concern.
While no lives were lost in this incident, the Hon. Commissioner emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to preventing such mishaps, even before any lives are endangered.
He further announced that the State Government will not only grant building permits but will also institute rigorous supervision of approved constructions to ensure strict adherence to established guidelines.
He earnestly appealed to Ekiti residents to collaborate with Governor Oyebanji’s administration in advocating for safety within the state’s construction sector.
Simultaneously, he issued a stern warning to non-compliant developers and confirmed government’s intention to seal any unauthorized structures within the state.
