Relief may have come the way of thousands of residents living in the densely populated Aba Iya-Medi Community along ilawe road on the outskirts of Ado Ekiti last week, as two new generators were installed to boost the erratic power shortage in the area, courtesy of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji.

The development, it was gathered, would put a permanent end to years of suffering and agonies experienced by the community as a result of poor electricity supply and outage.

This was, as the entire community had been feeding on one transformer for many years amidst low current and frustrating load shedding.

Performing the installation ceremony, wife of the State Governor, Dr Mrs Olayemi Oyebanji who led a high powered government team to the community said the journey started in 2022 during governorship campaigns in the state where she, as the wife of the APC candidate then, took her husband’s campaign to Aba Iya – Medi a highly populated area in Ado Ekiti with more than 10 communities and several zones.
She said their common request was a transformer to put an end to the years of darkness they have witnessed.

She spoke on how she had persuaded her husband to make Aba Iya-Medi Community one of the communities to benefit from the ongoing rural electrification of the government Knowing her husband as a man with high integrity.

She said the installation of the two transformers was the fulfiment of the promise she made to the people during the campaigns.

She however, praised the leaders of community’s association in the area for their doggedness, tenacity and consistency in the pursuit of their demand to a logical conclusion.
The First Lady ended her address with a note of caution that residents of the community should see the newly installed transformers as their property to be safeguarded against any sabotage or stealing of any components.
Speaking in similar vein the Permanent Secretary Ekiti State Electricity Board, Engr Atere said the government provided the two transformers to the people considering their very large population noting that installation of poles had been done as well as connection of cables adding that, the transformers will be energized this month.

The community members could not hide their joy as they prayed extensively for the success of Governor Biodun Oyebanji-led administration.

In his closing remarks, the general Chairman of the community, Alhaji Yusuf AbdulRazaq Adesanjo expressed gratitude to the Governor for fulfilling the promise which he described as the hallmark of a man of integrity.
He said the community would not take the kind gesture for granted as they will reciprocate with votes whenever the governor decides to run for a second term.
In another show of appreciation, the Chairman gifted the First Lady a white ram on behalf of the community.
