The Federal University Oye Ekiti has raised an alarm that some internet scammers have duplicated the social media accounts of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Abayomi Fasina, with the intent to defraud innocent members of the public.
The Special Adviser on Media matters to the VC, Wole Balogun, warned members of the public to be wary of “social media accounts being paraded as purportedly belonging to the VC from which money is being demanded from people.”
Balogun, in a statement on Friday titled, “FUOYE alerts public on hacked Facebook account of VC”, said, “It will be recalled that the public has constantly been warned about several fake social media handles and accounts already created by scammers who are impersonating the VC, Prof. Fasina, to manipulate unsuspecting members of the public and defraud them.
“There are more than five fake Facebook accounts we have discovered which have been created by evil internet scammers to manipulate unsuspecting Facebook users.
“Members of the public are warned to be very careful in dealing with such internet fraudsters as anyone or organisation that transacts business or any other matters with such people does such at his or her own risk.
