Ex-convict bags one year sentence for motorcycle theft

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced a 29 years old ex-convict, Wale Adegboro, to one-year imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle and some personal effects.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, said that the defendant committed the offence on November 20, 2022 around 6.50 pm at the Rose Bud area, Oke Ila Street, in Ado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi said that the ex-convict “did steal Bajaj motorcycle red colour with its ignition key valued N550,000.”

The police prosecutor said that the defendant also stole items including N10,000 cash, an Itel phone valued at N15,000, shorts valued at N3,000, a shirt valued at N4,000 and one pair of clippers valued at N10,000, all properties of one Opeyemi Egunjobi.

He said, “The complainant knew the defendant. The defendant had demanded some money from him to eat and the complainant took him to his house.

“The complainant went inside to take his bath, before he could know it, the convict had stolen his properties, and gone away.

“The offence committed is contrary to Section 295 and punishable under Section 302 (1)(A) of the Criminal Law Vol. 1, laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2021”.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the offence as charged.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, in the judgment, said, “The court has been furnished with the facts of the case, hence, the defendant was convicted and sentenced to one year imprisonment”.
