Perhaps one of the fastest goals of the new NNL 2023/24 Season was scored at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti when Ekiti United FC hosted Abia Comets FC on Sunday.

The goal which came as early as the third minute of the week 1 encounter was scored by Ofoni Wadulu who shocked the visitors after receiving a long thrust from goalkeeper, Bankole that earlier parried an aerial ball taken from the first corner kick of the match.

To the spectators and fans, the opening goal was less surprising compared to the second goal which came barely five minutes afterwards as last season’s Ekiti United highest goal scorer, Sodiq Ibrahim fired a volley from the center half which left Abia Comets goalkeeper napping.

Two nil, the host team, Ekiti United were leading within 7 minutes of the NNL week one encounter.

Still basking in euphoria of the two early goals, Ekiti United left back, George Adedara headed home the third goal after a corner kick taken in the 10th minute of the game.

The celebration was massive as the teeming fans who gained access into the stadium free of charge courtesy of the free tickets granted by Ekiti State governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji were super excited with the unimaginable result of the match as it ended that way.

No more goal was scored as the technical crew of Abia Comets made some substitutions that affected their goalkeeper and a couple of other players.

It was after the three goals hit the back of the net that the visitors put up some bit of challenge though Ekiti United goalkeeper, Bankole Temitope and the defence line were not rattled tall through the game.

Some goal scoring chances by Ekiti United were saved by the goalkeeper who rose to the challenge and did well by not conceding a goal as a substitute.

Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Adedayo Gold who represented governor Biodun Oyebanji was joined by the chairman Ekiti State Football Association, chief Olu Oloworemo, former Permanent Secretary, Mr Yemi Owoseni, Mr Adedeji Adesokan(Jaru) as well as Osun United FC chairman, Mr Akin Maxwell who were all delighted with the performances of Ekiti United players.

The governor’s representative promised to take the good news to the number one fan and supporter of the team and also inform the governor about the deplorable state of the vehicle of the team which was involved in an accident some years ago.

Ekiti United’s next match takes them to Enugu where they will face Coal City FC next weekend.
