The Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti, has taken a bold step toward becoming an agricultural hub by partnering with the Ekiti State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to support farmers in the area of mechanized farming.
The partnership aims to align with the state government’s vision of ensuring food security and fulfilling the dreams of the Institution’s founding fathers.
The advocacy team of the Polytechnic, led by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. E.A. Fasakin, and the Rector Dr S.O. Ajeigbe initiated the collaboration during an official visit to the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Ebenezer Boluwade, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
In his remarks, Prof. Fasakin emphasized the Polytechnic’s readiness to contribute to the state’s agricultural revolution through technical expertise, research, and innovation while highlighting the institution’s capacity to assist local farmers in mechanized farming, which is vital for increasing productivity and achieving sustainable food supply in the state.
Responding, Hon. Boluwade expressed the Ministry’s willingness to collaborate with Ekiti State Polytechnic, describing the institution as the state’s next strategic ally after the Ministry itself in ensuring adequate food production.
He emphasized the importance of the partnership in addressing challenges faced by farmers and enhancing technical know-how through training programs.
The Commissioner also proposed the formation of a joint committee to work on the modalities of the partnership and formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This, he said, would pave the way for organizing comprehensive training sessions for farmers, equipping them with modern agricultural techniques and tools to boost productivity.
The collaboration between Ekiti State Polytechnic and the Ministry of Agriculture is expected to play a significant role in transforming the state into a food-secure region while empowering farmers with advanced skills and resources.
This initiative marks a significant stride in actualizing the state government’s goal of agricultural sustainability and economic development.
