EKITI ASSEMBLY HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS MEETING ON SECURITY MATTERS, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR STATE’S SECURITY CHIEFS

Ekiti State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt Hon Adeoye Aribasoye has pledged their unalloyed support for the Security agencies in the State to combat the spate of insecurity in the state.

This was part of the resolutions of the House at the stakeholders meeting held in the Assembly complex in Ado Ekiti with the heads of Security agency and the notable stakeholders in the security sector across the State.

The meeting which was jointly administered by the three standing Committees of the House, comprises Committee on Security and Special duties, Works and Transport and Committee on Local government and chieftaincy affairs, had in attendance the Commissioner of Police, Director of State security services, Chairman Association of Local Govt of Nigeria (ALGON) Ekiti State chapter, Chairmen of local governments and Local Council Development Areas(LCDA),State Commandant of peace Corps.

Other security agencies and stakeholders in the meeting were Corps Commandant Amotekun, Representatives of the Ministry of transport, Chairman Okada Riders Association in the State, Chairmen of various vigilante groups and other paramilitary organizations.

Declaring the meeting open, the Chairman House Committee on Security and special duties Hon.Babatunde Omotayo sensitized the stakeholders on the importance of the meeting and called for synergy between the security Chiefs and the lawmakers, he applauded the contributions of all the security agencies to the peaceful co-existence among the residents of the State.

Hon Omotayo condemned the incessant killings of Motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders and the Point of Sales operators in the State and therefore want all hands to be on deck towards achieving crime free society, other Committee Chairmen and their members were not left out in the discussions.

Briefing the lawmakers on the situation report on Security issue in the State, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Director of State security services, Corps Commandant of Amotekun, State Commandant of Peace corps, Chairmen vigilante groups and other stakeholders intimated the lawmakers on various efforts they have put in place to tackle the insecurity and suggested the ways out of the present predicament.

Similarly, the Chairman Okada Riders Association in Ekiti State expressed sadness on the rate of killings of the members of their Association in the recent times added further that so many efforts have been put in place by the Association to curb the killings of their members and to discourage uncivilized and heinous attitude among them, he described Okada job as a noble and lucrative job and called for support and cooperation from the lawmakers and the security agencies.
