… Appreciates Tinubu for awarding contract for reconstruction of Kabba-Omuo-Ikole-Ifaki.

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has called on Federal Road Safety Corps and other State Ministries and Agencies responsible for road management in the state to put more road measures in place to reduce road accidents and enlighten road users on road signs and other traffic rules.
Under matter of urgent public importance at the plenary of Tuesday 24th September, 2024, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, called the attention of the House to the accident that occurred in front of CAC Grammar School, Ado Ekiti where a reckless driver knocked down a student of the school.
Members while discussing this incident called for stiffer penalties for road offenders in the State and that more road signs like Zebra Crossing should be introduced on our roads to reduce road accidents particularly around school areas. Furthermore, road signs should also be included in contracts for road constructions in the State while public enlightenment on road signs should be made priority for members of the public.
The House resolved to summon Road Safety Corps, Ministry of Works and Transportation and other relevant agencies on road usage in the State, Driver and Okada Unions to appear before the joint committee of Works, Security and Information of the House and the committee has two weeks to report back to the House at plenary.
The former Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu representing Irepodun/Ifelodun II, called the attention of the House to the Federal Executive Council approval for the reconstruction of Kabba-Omuo-Ikole-Ifaki. The House had earlier discussed and passed resolutions following a matter of urgent public importance on the state of the road raised by Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu.
The Speaker while appreciating the efforts put into this by His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji thanked members for being proactive in their roles as representatives of their people. He thanked the Chairman House Committee on Inter-parliamentary, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu for following up with the resolution of the House to discuss the state of the road with the Ekiti National Assembly Caucus and for collaborating with neighboring Kogi State House of Assembly which led to the success recorded on the road.
The Speaker further appreciated Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for being proactive always on issues affecting the people of Ekiti State particularly in ensuring that the approval for the road reconstruction was gotten and in addition appreciated the Federal Executive Council led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for answering the call of Ekiti people.
The Speaker enjoined the people of the state to cooperate with the contractor that would be working on the road in order to ensure the timeline of two years given for its completion.
The House at the plenary also continued with the account of stewardship of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the State.
The Council Chairmen of Ado Local Government Area; Ado North Local Council Development Area; Ado West LCDA; Okemesi/Ido Ile LCDA; Efon LGA; Ijero LGA; Araromi LCDA, presented their account of stewardship at the plenary.
The Chairman of Ado Local Government Area, Chief Bosun Osaloni, while answering question from the Speaker stated that the present 7th House of Assembly has demonstrated capacity in all areas. He added the account of stewardship would promote transparency and accountability and that the people at the grassroots are the most beneficiaries of the exercise.
