EFCC INVITES NIGERIEN GROOM, FAMILY MEMBERS WHO SPRAY NAIRA AT KANO WEDDING

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has addressed a viral video capturing a naira abuse incident that occurred at a Kano wedding on October 24, 2024.

The incident was initially linked to Senator Danjuma Goje’s daughter, but the family vehemently denied spraying money at their wedding.

However, upon investigation, EFCC found the incident occurred at Amina Babagana Zannah’s wedding dinner.

A statement via the commission’s X handle revealed that Zannah’s mother confirmed the video, stating the naira spray came from the groom’s Niger Republic family.

The EFCC further revealed that it summoned the groom, Ibrahim Mohammad, and those involved.

The statement reads in part: “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a viral video where the nation’s currency, Naira, was freely sprayed at a wedding ceremony in Kano, Kano State, on Friday, October 24, 2024.

“The EFCC swung into action by analysing the video and findings showed that the alleged naira abuse actually happened but not at the wedding of Goje’s daughter but at the wedding dinner of Amina Babagana Zannah held on the afore-mentioned date.

“The bridegroom, Ibrahim Mohammad, hails from Niger Republic and those that allegedly sprayed naira notes and dollar bills were from the groom’s family in Niger Republic.

“The Commission has invited the Nigerien groom, Mohammad, to report at its national headquarters in Abuja, with everyone that sprayed naira notes at his wedding with Zannah.”

Lately, the anti-graft agency has arraigned some Nigerians who were found guilty of the abuse of the naira note, notably celebrity bartender, Cubana Chief Priest, who settled out of court by forfeiting N10 million and crossdresser Bobrisky, who was jailed for six months.
