A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State on Friday ordered the remand of 28-year-old Ojo Alofe for alleged robbery and attempted murder.
In the charge, the defendant was said to have around 10am on August 22, 2023, at the Ijero Ekiti Magisterial District, “reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of robbery of a sum of N190,000 and attempt to murder 68-year-old David Omoleye, punishable under Sections 312 and 241 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.”
The victim, a welder, in his statement to the police, said, “The defendant came to my shop and started threatening to kill me that day. He removed one of the big irons meant for work and started hitting me on the head, hands, legs and other parts of the body. When I became unconscious, some sympathisers took me to General Hospital, Ijero Ekiti.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Bankole Olasunkanmi, prayed the court to adjourn the matter to enable the Director of Public Prosecutions to issue legal advice, having sent the original case file to his office.
In the ruling, Magistrate Bunmi Bamidele, said, “I find reasonable cause to grant the prosecutor’s application to remand the defendant at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for a period of 30 days pending issuance of legal advice by the DPP, Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Ado Ekiti.”
The magistrate adjourned the matter till November 8, 2023 for mention.
