The Ekiti Government has commended the Federal Government for providing relief materials worth millions of naira to 615 victims of flooding in the state through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The relief materials, distributed at a ceremony in Ado-Ekiti, included mattresses, pumping machines, grinding machines, tricycles, bags of rice, sewing machines and other household items.
The Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, whose office supervises disaster management in the state, commended the Federal Government for the intervention and urged it to sustain its support for disaster victims.
Afuye said the intervention reflected the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to alleviating the hardship faced by vulnerable residents.
She said the state government had spent more than N400 million on disaster relief, adding that its efforts had helped attract Federal Government support.
“The synergy between the governor and the president is that of a father and son, as both share a passion for improving the living conditions of the masses, particularly vulnerable people,” she said.
Afuye urged the people of Ekiti to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in the January 2027 presidential election, citing the Federal Government’s developmental interventions in the state.
“This shows the love Mr President has for the people of Ekiti. I appeal to our people to come out en masse during the January 2027 presidential election to vote for our president for another term in office,” she said.
The deputy governor advised beneficiaries to make proper use of the relief materials, warning against selling the items for quick financial gain.
She said the government would put mechanisms in place to monitor beneficiaries and ensure that the items served their intended purposes.
Earlier, the Head of Operations of NEMA in Ekiti and Ondo states, Mr Kazzem Olarenwaju, thanked the state government for the reception accorded his team.
Olarenwaju said the agency would sustain its interventions to ensure that more disaster victims benefited from its programmes.
He explained that the 615 beneficiaries were identified through a survey and data collation exercise conducted by NEMA in 2025.
He added that the agency would continue to uphold professionalism in identifying genuine victims and ensuring that relief materials reached the intended beneficiaries.
Also speaking, the General Manager of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Oludare Asaolu, thanked the Federal Government for its support for disaster management in the state.
Asaolu assured that the agency would monitor beneficiaries to ensure that the relief materials were used for their intended purposes.
