DEFECTION: AKINGBADE IDENTIFIES LACK OF STANDARDIZED RULES, AS BANE OF INTERNAL CONFLICTS AMONG POLITICAL PARTIES

Public Affairs Analyst and newspaper publisher, Prince Toyin Akingbade has identified the absence of standardized rules and regulations as the primary cause of recurring crisis within Nigeria’s political parties.

The Ado Ekiti Prince stated this in a radio program while responding to questions on the internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday.

Akingbade, who identified the danger of sole individual financing a political party as a major obstacle in the wheel of political progress in the country said that when a party relies on the deep pockets of a few wealthy individuals rather than a broad-based membership, that political formation ceases to be formidable.

On the current leadership tussle within the PDP, Akingbade threw his weight behind former Senate President Bukola Saraki to take leadership of the crisis ridden PDP as the highest-ranking former elected official in the party’s current hierarchy.

The analyst in a related development, condemned a recent comments by the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, about reclaiming the mandate of PDP governors who defected to APC, describing it as comedic while suggesting that Wike should first instruct those Rivers Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen in his faction of APC to return to PDP.

He advised the APC against excessive dependence on the Minister noting that the party’s current reliance on him could be disatrous in the future as a result of the strategic positioning of his loyalists in party and government capacities that currently form his political apparatus within the APC.

He raised serious concerns about the current path Nigerian democracy is taking, warning that the legal system’s failure to maintain integrity could undermine the nation’s democratic foundations.
