The Leader of the Senate, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, CON, has called on Christians in Ekiti State and across Nigeria to use the solemnity and spiritual significance of Easter to deepen their commitment to love, sacrifice, peaceful co-existence, national unity, and fervent prayers for the country.
Senator Bamidele said Nigeria’s present challenges require not division, bitterness, or despair, but a renewed national resolve anchored on faith, unity, tolerance, and collective sacrifice, stressing that no nation can make meaningful progress where disunity and mistrust thrive.
In his Easter message, the Senate Leader described the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the greatest symbol of redemption, hope, courage, and triumph over adversity, noting that the season remains a powerful reminder that light will always prevail over darkness and hope will always defeat fear.
He said Easter is not merely a period of celebration, but a sacred season for deep reflection, spiritual renewal, and national introspection, especially at a time when the country is confronting pressing challenges in the areas of security, economic hardship, and social cohesion.
According to him, the life of Jesus Christ remains the clearest example of selfless leadership, sacrificial living, humility, and unconditional love, virtues he said are urgently needed in the nation’s public and private life.
Senator Bamidele urged Christians not to lose sight of the deeper message of Easter, emphasizing that the season calls for renewed commitment to peace, compassion, mutual understanding, and unwavering faith in Nigeria’s future.
He noted that the resurrection story is a powerful testimony that difficult seasons do not last forever, adding that with unity of purpose, patriotic leadership, and God’s grace, Nigeria will overcome its present trials and emerge stronger.
The Senate Leader also charged Christians to use the Easter celebration as a period of earnest prayers for the peace, stability, and prosperity of Nigeria, particularly for divine wisdom and strength for leaders at all levels, as well as protection and comfort for citizens across the country.
He further admonished Christians to celebrate with moderation, humility, and gratitude, in line with the teachings and example of Christ, whose earthly ministry was marked by service, compassion, obedience, and sacrifice.
While extending warm Easter greetings to the people of Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Ekiti State, and Nigerians across the federation, Senator Bamidele reaffirmed his commitment to responsive representation, progressive leadership, and legislative actions that advance the peace, welfare, and development of the nation.
He also called on the people to continue to support the administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, noting that shared commitment and popular support remain critical to sustaining the developmental strides being recorded in Ekiti State.
“At Easter, we are reminded that sacrifice births victory, faith births hope, and unity births national progress. This is the spirit Nigerians must embrace at this critical time in our history.”
