Stakeholders in hiking, conservation, research, and tourism will converge in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, 7th February 2026, for the Urban Mountain Hiking Lecture Series, an initiative designed to deepen understanding of urban mountains beyond recreation and reposition them as vital ecological, cultural, and community assets.
The lecture series, themed “Light Hike • Clean • Document,” will take place at Eminent Hotel, along NTA Road, Ado-Ekiti, and is structured as a learning and engagement session for hikers, nature lovers, researchers, volunteers, and tourism stakeholders committed to the protection and sustainable development of Ekiti’s urban mountain landscapes.
According to the organisers, the programme responds to the growing interest in urban hiking while addressing the urgent need for conservation, proper documentation, and responsible trail development. Participants will explore how urban mountains can support biodiversity, environmental education, tourism growth, and community wellbeing when properly managed.
Key focus areas of the lecture series include:
Biodiversity & Urban Ecology
Documenting Mountains and Trails
Trail Development & Sustainability
Bird Watching and Nature Interpretation
Project Review and Community Action
Beyond classroom-style discussions, the lecture series aligns with ongoing efforts to promote light-impact hiking, environmental cleanliness, and systematic documentation of Ekiti’s mountainous terrains as a foundation for long-term eco-tourism planning.
The organisers emphasize that the initiative is part of a broader movement to build a knowledge-driven hiking culture in Ekiti—one that balances adventure with conservation, research, and local participation.
The Urban Mountain Hiking Lecture Series is expected to strengthen collaboration among outdoor enthusiasts, environmental advocates, and tourism stakeholders while reinforcing Ekiti State’s growing reputation as a hub for eco-tourism and urban nature experiences.
