EKITI GOVT ANNOUNCES STATEWIDE SANITATION EXERCISE FEB. 28

By Editor

The Ekiti State Government has announced that the February edition of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise will hold on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

The exercise, with the theme: “Your Environment, Your Health: Let’s Clean Together,” is aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, urged residents to participate fully, describing environmental sanitation as a collective civic responsibility.

Aluko-Ajisafe said that maintaining a clean environment was crucial to preventing disease outbreaks and fostering a healthy society.

She said movement would be restricted during the three-hour exercise, except for those on essential duties.

The commissioner advised communities, households and business owners to take the exercise seriously by cleaning their surroundings thoroughly.

She added that market women were expected to clean their stalls on Thursday, while public servants should tidy their offices on Friday in preparation for the exercise.

According to her, Environmental Health Officers, in collaboration with officials of LGAs, LCDAs, non-governmental organisations and security agencies, will monitor the exercise to ensure compliance.

Aluko-Ajisafe reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining environmental health, stressing that achieving a cleaner Ekiti requires collective effort and responsibility.
