ADO ROAD ACCIDENT: OYEBANJI SYMPATHIZES WITH VICTIMS WARNS MOTORISTS AGAINST RECKLESS DRIVING

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, on Thursday sympathised with victims of Wednesday’s auto accident involving a government Luxury Bus and a truck in Ado Ekiti, the State Capital.

To avert recurrent of such sordid scenario, Oyebanji warned truck drivers operating in the state to refrain from reckless driving capable of increasing carnages on the roads, leading to untimely death of road users.

During the accident, a driver attached to one of the government’s Luxury buses conveying civil servants, had lost his life, while four other commuters sustained varying degrees of injuries, when the truck rammed into the bus.

Those who sustained injuries are presently receiving treatment at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti and Oba Adejugbe Specialist Hospital in the state capital.

Speaking during a visit to EKSUTH, where the injured were being treated, Governor Oyebanji, said his government would not tolerate any form of reckless driving that could terminate the lives of the citizens untimely.

Oyebanji, represented by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, bemoaned the accident and mandated the Chief Medical Director of the tertiary health institution, Prof Kayode Olabanji to offer the best treatments that would make the victims recuperate within the shortest possible time.

“I want to thank the medical personnel for their quick intervention .You know the welfare and safety of Ekiti people are vital and paramount in the mind of Governor Biodun Oyebanji. Please take good care of the injured so that they can re unite with their family members within the shortest possible time.

“We are not happy that we lost a life during the accident and some people who were going about their normal duties were also affected and sustained injuries. It was one incident that really pained us as a government.

“The safety of our people is paramount to us and under this context, we appeal to road users, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles and trucks to shun reckless driving that can cause unwarranted loss of lives”, the governor warned.

In his submission, the Commissioner for Information, Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun, who was part of the entourage, said the Governor’s visit further amplified how passionate Governor Oyebanji is to the welfare and safety of Ekiti populace.

Olatunbosun, who lamented the accident and the attendant victims, reiterated the need for motorists to exhibit caution and civility while driving on the roads, saying such a terrible carnage would have been averted if drivers took precautions.

“The government of Ekiti State really sympathised with the victims. We are really pained that this actually happened, but we are doing everything to manage the situation. The lives of Ekiti populace are precious to this government.” He added.

The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Prof Kayode Olabanji, said his men swung into action immediately the injured were brought into the facility and this he said helped in reducing the number of deaths that could have been recorded during the accident.

Prof Olabanji promised that adequate attention is being offered any patient brought into the hospital and that of the victims won’t be an exception.

“Here at EKSUTH, which is a government hospital, what we value is safety and we will continue to do that”, the CMD assured.
