The City Boy Movement (CBM), Ekiti State Chapter, has commenced a statewide membership drive targeting 200,000 members across the 177 wards of Ekiti State, with the exercise scheduled to run until October 31.

The mobilisation programme was launched on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the movement’s State Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, where the State Director, Asiwaju Kasali Oluwafemi, welcomed the 16 Local Government Coordinators and 177 Ward Coordinators to the programme.

Kasali charged the coordinators to take the membership drive directly to the grassroots, stressing that the objective was to build an organised membership structure across communities rather than limit the movement’s support base to social media.

“This is no time for rhetoric or jamboree. We have received the marching order to take the membership drive to all the 177 wards of Ekiti State. Our target is 200,000 members,” he said.

The State Director said the coordinators had a responsibility to ensure that the movement’s message and membership process reached communities across the state.

Kasali also expressed appreciation to Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for creating what he described as an enabling environment for young people to thrive and participate meaningfully in society.

He said the movement recognised the importance of an environment where young people can develop their potential, pursue opportunities and contribute to the growth and development of the state.

According to him, youth development goes beyond political participation and requires an atmosphere that allows young people to acquire skills, build careers, pursue enterprise and contribute positively to their communities.

He said CBM appreciates the Governor’s disposition towards youth development and expressed confidence that continued support for young people would create more opportunities for them to play productive roles in Ekiti’s future.

Also speaking, the State Coordinator of CBM in Ekiti, Dr. Habibat Yusuf, said the membership drive would run until October 31, urging coordinators to use the period effectively to achieve the movement’s statewide target.

She disclosed that the membership exercise is targeted at people between the ages of 18 and 50, charging coordinators to ensure that information flows effectively from the state level through the local government structure to grassroots coordinators at the ward level.

Yusuf said each of the 177 wards is expected to register at least 1,000 members, while urging the coordinators to maintain effective communication and coordination throughout the exercise.

She added that practical illustrations were provided during the meeting to ensure that all coordinators understood the membership process and were adequately equipped to carry out the assignment in their respective areas.

Speaking with journalists after the programme, Alofe Ayodele Moses, Director of Media and Communications, said the membership exercise was important because a movement could not build a strong organisational base without a strong grassroots structure.

He said CBM was deliberately moving beyond people who merely identify with the movement online to building an organised membership that can be identified within communities, wards and polling units.

“We want to move beyond having people who simply support CBM on social media to having identifiable, organised and active members across communities, wards and polling units.”

Alofe said the exercise was also about establishing a closer relationship between the movement and residents across Ekiti.

“For us in Ekiti, it is about taking the movement directly to the people, listening to them, bringing them into the structure and giving them a sense of ownership.”

He explained that the 177 Ward Coordinators would play a critical role in achieving the objective because of their proximity to residents and communities at the grassroots.

Materials to guide the membership registration and mobilisation exercise were distributed to the coordinators, while practical illustrations were also provided to enable them to effectively carry out the assignment.

The membership drive will now move into the 16 local government areas and 177 wards of the state, with CBM Ekiti working towards its 200,000-member target by October 31.
