EKITI APC TO SDP’S COUNSEL – YOU ARE CRYING WOLF WHERE NONE EXIST

By Editor

The ruling All Progressives Congress APC, in Ekiti has reacted to the alleged claims of threat to life being raised by the counsel to the Social Democratic Party, (SDP) describing it as sensational and unfortunate outburst

The party made the clarification in a press statement signed by Ekiti APC Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe and made available to newsmen on Thursday.

The statement reads;
“The attention of the All Progressives Congress, Ekiti State Chapter, has been drawn to the sensational and unfortunate outburst by the counsel to the Social Democratic Party, Mr. Ebenezer Akinbuyi, alleging threat to his life and attack within the premises of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Ado-Ekiti.

“Ordinarily, we would have ignored this melodrama, but it has become imperative to set the record straight and prevent the public from being misled by a choreographed attempt to whip up sentiment and discredit a peaceful judicial process.

“The facts of this election are sacred and in the public domain. Ekiti people spoke loud and clear on June 20, 2026, when they re-elected Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress with a resounding and historic 319,224 votes, winning in all 16 Local Government Areas of the state, while the SDP candidate polled a paltry 179 votes. We ask any discerning mind: what does a party with 319,224 popular votes have to worry about against a party with 179 votes? The answer is absolutely nothing. The APC has no reason whatsoever to intimidate anyone, barricade any court, or attack any counsel, because this petition is a frivolous academic exercise that is dead on arrival.

“The Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who is also a defendant in the case, is a globally acknowledged apostle of peace and he is not losing any sleep over this matter. He remains calm, unperturbed, and fully focused on delivering good governance to Ekiti people. He has implicit and unshakable trust in the judiciary to do its job and take the rightful course without any form of intimidation from any quarter, and he will never condone violence or any act that could breach the peace of our dear state, which is widely known as one of the most peaceful in Nigeria.

“The allegation by the SDP counsel that the President of the Court of Appeal is yet to decide on a possible relocation of sitting from Ekiti is false and misleading. As correctly clarified by our counsel, Barrister Adetunji Oso, the President of the Court of Appeal has already directed that hearing of the petitions should continue in Ado-Ekiti, and that is why the Tribunal is sitting and proceedings are ongoing. The SDP counsel should therefore desist from giving false narration to the court and to the media. The further allegations of APC agents barricading the court gate with weapons and attacking him within the Tribunal premises are figments of his imagination, concocted to attract undue sympathy. No such incident happened. The Tribunal premises is adequately secured by security agencies and no member of APC attacked anyone.

“We in APC believe this is a clear case of whipping up sentiment and crying wolf where there is none, a common strategy when a petitioner has no substance or evidence to prosecute his case. We urge the Tribunal to remain focused and ignore these distractions, and we call on security agencies to demand proof of these wild allegations”
